I redid the site using PHP, to avoid the use of frames. No content change
Added a link to a great connectors roundup the Hardware page.
I reorganized the site into more topical areas, instead of these vague sections. Much better, I think.
I don't know why I still put still on this page, but anyway.. I included more info on Ultra3 and Ultra160, after looking through some of Adaptec's white papers.
Got me a domain, new server, and the page back up! Now it's time to re-submit the site to all the search engines again...
I took a bunch of pictures today, and added some of them to the hardware page.
I explained more the ID priority system in the How it Works section. Ancot sent me another SCSI book instead of the Fiber Channel book, so it looks like it'll be a while before I get more information on that. Don't expect frequent page updates anymore, as this site is more of a repository of information rather than a constantly changing resource site.
I fiddled with the basics area, because upon reading it over it seemed like I left some parts out.
I've been trying to get the background colors to work right for a few days but I finally got it to work right. I requested Ancot's Fiber Channel book so when I get that I'll add a bunch about this protocol.
Not much new in terms of content, just some reorganization. I moved the section discussing Wide issues to How it Works instead of having it in the Setups section. If you see anything else that you think is out of place, let me know. The little bit of new content was a new setup example dealing with putting a Narrow device on the end of a Wide bus. Wheee!!
Nothing major today. I added Adaptec's site the piddly Links page, plus I but in a plea up front for where you guys found this site. I registered it with some search engines but I can't find the damn thing anywhere. I looked into dual-channel cards today and I added a bit more about them in the Hardware page.
I added a "Good Setup" or "Bad Setup" to the pictures on the Setups section as one might think one of the bad setups was a good one. I added a section to Setups about wide bus termination and such.
Fairly major changes today. I took out the side mail link and replaced it with a "coming soon" page. I also changed the fonts of the site. One cool thing I did was write a Javascript than changes the default width of the menu frame depending on your screen resolution. I had problems with the vertical spacing being messed up at different resolutions, so I made the script make the frame just wide enough so that everything looks nice. By the way, HTML Goodies helped out a lot with the script. I filled out the Standards section a bit, adding info about the three SCSI versions.
I got some feedback today and changed the site correspondingly. I put the setups in a table so it was clear which picture was paired with which description.
Style sheets rule! I spent a few hours figuring them out and then I applied them to the site. Now because of one file (sheets.css) and one line of code in each page, I made all my links bold and non-underlined. I can't think of anything else to change with it, but if I might think of something. Also, I used a separate style block on this page to set the text/background colors of the tables, plus I spaced the text out by 6 pixels. I can't promise this page won't turn into an HTML experiment, but I can try.
I made the backgrounds blue and the text a bold yellow. It makes it look a bit like BluesNews but it's a good look.
I clarified the part in Setups where I didn't really explain why a terminated device wouldn't cut off the bus. I was about to post the question to the newsgroup but then it hit my why it wouldn't. If my assumption is wrong, let me know about it!. By the way, the blue background to these tables is pretty cheesy.
I uploaded the page today, after writing the last few sections. There still are some parts that I haven't explained thoroughly enough, but I'll get to them.
